This week has been extremely trying for me – on both fronts. It feels like I’m stretching myself out too thin with so many responsibilities and I’m losing my mind. What’s worse? I know I can’t really remove any of them because, well, they’re MY responsibilities. Truth be told, I don’t want to since one really compliments the other; stuck between a rock and a hard place, right? Ha ha ha.
LGBTQ+
I’m really enjoying my new job as a full-time promoter and Brand Ambassador. I don’t have to really sell anything per say, which makes it a lot less stressful; the product really sells itself. But, it also gives me time to come up with even more ideas for stories – both short and long. That’s what I love about being a writer…
Two words…Jessica Jones.
While I’m adding my contribution (my story) to my friend’s folder to share with the other team members, I’m going to binge-watching the season 2 of my favorite Defender of the MCU: Jessica Jones. I also get to hope for an actual happy ending for Ms. Jones, too; God knows she needs it. But that’s just the start of the good news for this week.
Frat Rush (Frat Gay For You, #1) by Chad Lane
Okay, Chad Lane is starting to become a favorite writer of mine. Yep! That’s right, ladies and gents, I’m starting to add a romance author to my list of favorite authors. Funny enough, he’s going to be the second author on my list that’s gay; Michael Zummo, the author of the ingenious D’mok series, is another one of mines. But, seriously, this author is really a delight.
For Him (For Him, #1) by Chad Lane
Okay, so as I stated before, the romance genre is something I’m still researching and adjusting to. At this point, I’m actually digging it so far. Still not exactly my cup of tea BUT I can see why so many readers immerse themselves in the genre. And, like I explained before, the only way I’ll read a romance novel is if it’s LGBT since my next series will be of the same variety.
Time to Upsize (The Indignities Book 1) by Graeme Aitken
So, when I told my friends that I wanted to tackle the romance department, I was told to start reading some romance novels to get a better understanding of the genre. I was also suggested to do the same thing with the Crime genre. So, I was given an invite to BookBub.com and went to town on some free books. The first one was Time to Upsize, an LGBT Romance with a rather…how should I put this…avant grade storyline.
This week was pretty relaxed for me. Well, somewhat relaxed, I mean I did have to work on my books and wait for my background check to clear. So, yeah, just a normal week, right? Wrong…so wrong. I mean, seriously, you and I both know that life is never that simple.
This week has been incredibly slow due to me looking for a job, waiting for an interview call while working through the last Heroes story for my Dimensions series. Winter is always a slow season for merchandiser because clients don’t need the assistance of us…at least, not until the spring. So, I have to look for an additional job. This is something I’m kinda not used to because I like having one job which won’t be the case when spring rolls around thus making it a little harder to manage my writing schedule. Something I’m just going to have to work through, I guess.
“Patience is a virtue, Justin. Not everything is going to come easily to you; sometimes you’ll have to work harder than normal to perfect certain skills.”
You have no idea how many times I have heard that statement, albeit in many different forms. It has been said to be when I was learning a particularly unique skill in my eyes i.e. a new physical feat, such as a fighting style (Tae Kwon Do was easier for me than Karate, if you could believe it), it takes me a slightly longer time to master it. But not by much, really.
