So! I told you that I was going to tell you the name of my LGBT+ series and, as promised, I am finally ready to tell you.
The name of the series is called Queer Eyes and I am excited about this series for a few reasons. First, and most important, I want to be able to connect with my LGBT community – both in and outside the geek/nerd culture. Each installment will have a major crime that plagues our community while the main character (a transgender man) is trying to navigate life and find love and acceptance among himself and others – mostly himself. I have been spending so much time writing up outlines and researching information about the duties and job description of a Private Investigator (I’m probably not to go to EVERYTHING about that to the letter). Along with that, I wanted to get a better understanding of the Transgender community – including their usual turmoil in life.
This leads to the other reason for creating this series: I do love a challenge. My younger brother looked at my book series roster and noticed that I had TWO science fiction series in my lineup. Yeah, I know, I move fast but that’s not the point. The point is that, when he saw it, he had to ask a very compelling question: Have you consider writing a book about your community? It made sense. I’ve been part of the LGBT+ community for the longest time so I’m already equipped with the knowledge to write such a series. The only question was which genre would it fit best in for me…and since I like crime shows.
Now! You got the name of the series, but I can’t tell you much about the book except that it’s going to revolve around gay bashing and will feature a very VERY vile antagonist. At first it was going to deal with high school bullying, however, I decided to change it up as I want to the series to open with a powerful surge of emotion. Plus, it was easier for me to slowly merge the two worlds of the main characters together to move the story along into some real dark territories…I do mean dark.
As I stated last week, I began writing the first book of the Queer Eyes series in December since I’ll be spending this month working on the twelve stories for second and third installments. This schedule makes sense because it doesn’t take long for me to write for me to write short stories. Optimistically, I can probably finish them all before I reach the halfway point of this month if I don’t get too heavily distracted. Of course, time will tell.
