My brother has always insisted that I take one day off a week so I can put my brain to rest. He even told me to call it a “Me Day” as use it as a way to realign your mental state. At first, I did until I was getting closer and closer to completing my 45 short stories. So, I keep working and working. On top of that, I was also tackling 25-30 classes a week while completing my mandatory office hours. The thing was…I was doing fine…until I wasn’t.
It hit me with a force that I couldn’t describe. I was mentally drained on the busy work day: the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are always the busiest days at my campus. We always have the most kids and we are all guaranteed to have, at least, nine classes apiece. So, feeling that force at the most inopportune moment was very unsettling to say the least.
I found myself unable to be my usual cheerful self and the kids was well aware of it. The thing people tend to forget about kids are how intune they are with their surroundings and the people in their lives. They noticed everything and will respond to anything. I played it off but the kids were still caring enough to make sure I was okay.
But that was a good wake-up call for me. For now on, I will be taking one or two days off like my brother suggested. I can’t reach the world with my writing if I’m too far gone to finish. Also, I can feel my brother saying “I told you” with that damn grin. In all fairness, I’ve done the exact same thing to him. A lot more, actually.
On the plus side, after I complete SS #37, I will have seven more stories to complete before typing it all up. I’m aiming to get them all done and typed up before the end of next month. Unfortunately, this may require me to push the release a month but I’m okay with that. My mental health is just as important as my writing. I get that, now.
Now, please, don’t forget to follow me on my social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, and Goodreads) which are on the right side of my web page. Also, I do love hearing suggestions of what books to read outside of my norm (Science fiction and fantasy) as I am a part of the Goodreads’ reading challenge for 2020. My goal is to read 100 books this year and I’m already at 81. Probably end up reading 120 before the year is out.
